Coding Research Questions

Page history last edited by PBworks 17 years, 11 months ago

A thought to keep in mind, this page will be in constant (sometimes slight) revision as more information is exchanged between the coding team and the question writing team. We'll need to be working closely together, as we are nothing withouth each other (awwwww...)

So, just to briefly outline what was discussed in our meeting in class on wednesday, we thought it would be best to assign point value to each question based on the slant in which they answered. The scale will rank from 1 to 5 with one representing the general idea that media has low influence in gender roles or that gender roles are not prominently featured in the media, progressing higher up until 5, which represents the opposite, that the media has strong influence in gender roles and/or are prominently featured. For example:

Television has a strong role in influencing young adults' gender roles.

completely disagree (1 pt) / disagree (2 pts) / neutral (3 pts) / agree (4 pts) / completely agree (5 pts)

in order to avoid patterns, we'll alternate the phrasing of the questions, points will be assigned by context, not by order. Ex:

Magazine's influence in young women's self perception is waning.

completely disagree (5 pts) / disagree (4 pts) / neutral (3 pts) / agree (2 pts) / completely agree (1 pt)

After determining how many questions will make up the survey (therefore determining what is the maximum/minimal amount of points possible), we'll find the neutral median to begin the data analysis of those with positive versus negative perception to our question at hand.

Also, depending on the questions chosen, we can compare question responses as I alluded to in the survey question area. If we find strong correlations between certain questions, it'll bring up some strong points to be made in the paper/results section. Of course, this stage is dependent on the final questions chosen.
