The purpose of the content analysis is to compare the findings from the survey with our own findings.

 

Looking in magazines we found mostly that:

 

The criteria we are looking at is:

-Clothing (how much)

-Hair color

-Eye color

-Facial expressions

-Race

-In home/out of home setting

-Age

-Contact (if there is more than one person in the ad, how close are they?)

-Facial hair (men)

-Body type

-Posing (seductive, innocent, etc.)

 

US Weekly Content Analysis - Valene

My advertisement amounts were limited in this magazine. Here is a brief description of all my ads for analysis for the individual completing the type up for the content analysis. Enjoy!

 

 

  1. Single (as opposed to a group ad), Caucasian, Blonde, Female advertising red lipstick by puckering up with her eyes closed. Early 30's
  2. Single (as opposed to a group ad), Caucasian, Blonde, Female smiling with an innocent look on her face as she advertises Neutrogena face wash. Late 20's
  3. Group of Blonde, Caucasian, Females dressed suggestively (tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, bathing suit tops, little shorts and little skirts), posing in a seductive manner as they advertise Jose Cuervo. Early 20's...if that.
  4. Group Ad. Blonde, Caucasian, female, dressed suggestively (as stated before) with shopping bags all around her using her cell phone to call a ride. Dark skinned, African American male sitting on the bench eating McDonalds.
  5. Unmarried, Caucasian, Couple with dark hair smiling as they advertise Jasmine birth control.

 

Cosmopolitan Content Analysis-Maggie

There were plenty of advertisements for me to analyze in this magazine,however I chose the ones that best represented our research question.

  1. Group Ad. 3 Blonde women all wearing green leaves over their suggestive body parts. Two of the women lay next to eachother while the third woman shaved her legs. The advertisment was promoting Chic Razors.
  2. Single person ad. African American male sitting at a dinner table by himself wearing casual clothes smiling while he eats Papa Johns Pizza.
  3. Group Ad. 4 people total( 2 couples) all caucasian, all women were blonde haired, all men were dark haired. The women were provacitively dressed in short skirts and halter tops or low cut shirts. Men were wearing jeans and polo shirts. The couples were sitting outside some restaurant drinking cocktails with their heads back laughing. The advertisment was for Absolut Vodka.
  4. Single Ad. African American women wearing a low cut zebra printed dress sitting by herself on a cruise boat gazing at the sunset. There were many couples in the background laughing and having a good time. The advertisement was for match.com

Intouch Magazine-Amanda

  1. Ad.1 Black Femamle smiling in the category of 21-23. hair colour was brown and she introducing Diet Pepsi.She was fully clothed along with others in the background.
  2. Ad.2 White Female with Blonde hair in the Gategory of 23-25. introducing Covergirl Makeup. she looked very seductive with red lipstick on her lips puckered up and eyes closed.
  3. Ad.3 four White Females with brunette colour hair. they were also smiling in the category of 25+. they were very attractive and skinny. they were surrounded with guys that also had brunette colour hair. they were introducing beer and ofcourse the women were holding the beer while the men ate.
  4. Ad. 4 One male and one female laying on each other smiling and very intimate. they were both caucasian with brown colour hair. Introducing Birth Control.
